NEW BLOG!

So the new blog is UP and running. It has all the old posts from here and the craft blog mixed together. And it even has NEW posts already! Yup Little S's birthday party was this weekend and I posted it (and the cake and all the other great foods) over there. So please check it out. Also if your a follower that doesn't automatically transfer over so be sure to follow the new blog!

This will be my last post here at Bittersweet, but the BEST news? I'm taking the plunge, I'm starting a website for my cakes. More professional and easier to market. We've decided to stop our wandering ways (for now) and are settled here in SLC for the foreseeable future. So I'm going to start marketing, and actually try to make a real effort to sell cakes! Wish me luck (and call and order!). So look for that in the next few days.

13th birthday

This weekend was the birthday party for last week's birthday girl. It was fun to do. I got to try out a few new techniques! It was great! Although I'm still having troubles with some of my recipes here in the high altitude of UT. My white cake fell, both of them. So I used the bottom half of both cakes to get the right height. I was able to use parchment paper to get more height out of my pan, and I think the layers look better carved out of a 4 inch tall cake instead of a 3 inch tall cake.

Also after the cake was done I used my steamer to make the fondant get all shiny! What do you think? It won't look right with every style of cake, but it worked really well for this cake! I have to say I LOVE this cake. Anyway, Happy Birthday Emily, I hope your sleepover is a blast!

Amazon, I got the travel steamer, so it's nice and small, but works SOOO well. http://www.amazon.com/Jiffy-Steamer-0601-ESTEAM-Travel/dp/B0018ZHHS4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1257732627&sr=8-1
